Tampa Film Conference
An event by Tampa Bay Film
For, and by, the upcoming Tampa Film Community

The Tampa Film Conference Is Coming Soon

The upcoming event series by Tampa Bay Film and Eventi Events is pretty far along, with many of the details worked out. Produced by Tampa event planner and filmmaker C. A. Passinault, the Tampa Film Conference may prove to be as revolutionary as his film festivals and web sites.
"The main mission of the Tampa Film Conference is to help Tampa filmmakers." Passinault stated, "That's the big one. We want filmmakers to inspire each other, and help the Tampa indie film scene to become respected. The Tampa indie film scene will eventually become a huge player in the indie film industry, and may very well dominate the entertainment industry in Florida one day. With events like the Tampa Film Conference and an array of revolutionary film festivals supporting Tampa filmmakers, we have a chance to create Hollywood East right here on our own, without depending on outside film productions to save us."
Passinault laughed, "Actually, saving us is a false economy. Getting Hollywood productions to use Tampa Bay as a location for major motion pictures might be good for the local non-film economy, but it would be bad for Tampa filmmakers. The big productions would compete against local Tampa filmmakers for the resources that we need to make films. Inviting competition here would undermine the efforts, and the growth, of the Tampa indie film scene. Remember that when self-serving Tampa filmmakers sell out their brothers to work toward attracting Hollywood here. Remember that when the Tampa film commission markets Tampa Bay as a location to Hollywood while selling Tampa filmmakers short. Remember that when the big Tampa film festivals discount Tampa filmmakers and cater to indie films from elsewhere. Tampa filmmakers need to stand on our own feet. We need to define who we are in the independent film industry. We need to brand our indie films and be respected as talented artists. That is my goal, and it needs to be the goal of every Tampa filmmaker."
When asked about the debut of the Tampa Film Conference, Passinault smiled. "Obviously, we need to establish the first Tampa film community before we can support the Tampa Film Conference. Progress is now being made, as we now have an infrastructure set up for that, and our foundation is strong. First will come some revolutionary indie film projects to prove some concepts. After that, there will be a powerful array of Tampa film festivals to raise awareness of what is possible with Tampa indie film. After the naysayers are put in their place, the professional filmmakers will gather together and form the first Tampa film community. It will be then that the doors will open for the Tampa Film Conference."

Details about the Tampa Film Conference are currently a tightly controlled secret, with information shared on a limited need to know basis only. The event will be classified until its debut nears in the next few years.
